Peter Chura returned to Global Winnipeg in May 2007 as anchor and supervising producer of the Evening News at 6 PM. Prior to this, he spent seven years as the Parliament Hill correspondent for CHUM’s CityTV and A-Channel.

A graduate of the Carleton School of Journalism in 1992, Chura began his journalism career with CBC National in Toronto as a writer/editor/editorial assistant. He then moved on to MCTV Timmins as a reporter and anchor, Global TV Winnipeg, ITV Edmonton and CHUM.

Chura has covered several major stories in his career including the war and peacekeeping efforts in the Balkans. He was one of the first Canadian journalists in Kosovo following the end of the NATO bombing campaign. He has covered three Prime Ministers, three federal election campaigns, and several international summits including the Summit of the Americas in 2001 that resulted in two full days of riots.

He has received a CANPRO Gold medal for his series on Canadian troops in Bosnia in 1997 and an RTNDA award for best spot news coverage in 1999.
