Die-hard Jets fan Ginger Knox hasn't missed a home game or an opportunity to support her favourite team.

“I just want to show my support and that I’m rooting for our team,” said Knox.

Knox was first in line to get her Winnipeg Jets license plates Monday morning. She's been waiting almost two weeks since the personalized plates were first announced.

“It’s really a sense of pride I’m going to feel when I’m driving around, especially when I take my car out of country, going down to the states or out of province,” said Jets fan, Jenn Gerelus.

About 50 fans waited up to an hour, not surprising that the plates sold out in many locations within an hour.

“They only had like 8 or 10 in there so I’m kind of feeling bad for the people that are waiting in line,” said Jeannine Robert, who bought a Jets plate.

The plates sell for $70, with $30 going towards the true north foundation, which supports various charities.

“There was a lot of excitement over the bomber plates but we've noticed much more excitement over the Jets plates,” said Insurance broker, Lindsay Rae Pauls.

It’s such a hot item brokers like Lindsay Rae Pauls are warning customers to protect their plates from being stolen.

“You can get locking bolts on your license plates, put different bolts on them, maybe a star on one and a flat on the other,” said Pauls.

Some Bombers plates were stolen in the summer and because of that, Canadian Tire stores are seeing these anti-theft screws flying off the shelves.

“We are prepared for the rush, when the Bombers plates came out weren't as prepared,” said Kerry Corbin, Canadian Tire manager.

The anti-theft screws come with a special tool; you need this in order to screw the license plate on, so that not anyone with a regular screwdriver can take it off.
