TORONTO –Canadians seem to love Fridays, talking dogs and a 12-year-old singing sensation from Winnipeg.
YouTube, the popular video-sharing site, released its 2011 list of the most-watched videos in Canada on Tuesday. Rebecca Black’s “Friday” was the most-watched video by the global and Canadian community with nearly 180 million views.
While Canadians Justin Bieber and Drake both remained hugely popular on YouTube, another Canadian delivered a massive viral hit. Andrew Grantham, who hails from Halifax, Nova Scotia, secured the number two spot with his ‘Ultimate Dog Tease’ video. The hilarious voice over to a home video of a German shepherd has garnered over 74 million views to date.
In the number three spot is an 12-year-old Winnipeg girl whose rendition of Lady Gaga's song “Born this way” turned her into an overnight online sensation.
With over 45 million YouTube views, Maria Aragan went on to sign a recording deal in the Philippines and has performed for talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his wife, and royal newlyweds Prince William and his wife Kate.
