Police have identified 46 year old Michael Warren Sinclair as the city's latest homicide victim.
Sinclair was shot and
killed inside a house in the 600 block of Selkirk Avenue around 5 a.m. Saturday.
A woman was also injured
and is recovering in hospital.
Officers are
interviewing several people who were in the home at the time to piece together
what happened.
"Any type of
information we can glean from the residence, the individuals involved anything
like that is something we will start with and that investigators are still in
the very early stages," said Const. Natalie Aitken, with the Winnipeg
Police Service.
This isn't the first
time this house has been surrounded by yellow tape. Last year 21-year old
Tiffany Johnston was gunned down right next door to where this latest murder
happened.
Some of those living in
the North End are concerned with the level of crime and have even stopped
reacting to sirens
"It's not safe but
I can't afford to move so I guess I'm stuck here for a while," said Mervin
Garneau.
"I've been living
here for 30 years and it's getting worse and worse," said another
resident. "You can't even walk up and down here because you are
scared."
This latest murder
pushes the homicide rate for Winnipeg
even higher to 39. The former record was 34 murders back in 2004.
Police say they don't
look at the numbers and treat every case as a new one.
"It's not something
that as a police service we're very happy about but I don't think there is
anything different with this homicide that we would do," said Aitken.
Police
aren't saying if the shooting is gang related police have made no arrests.
Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
